God is not merely concerned with what we do, but why we do it and the spirit in which we do it. We can perform good deeds, fulfill our godly responsibilities, and even serve faithfully in the church and one another, yet do so with a prideful, resentful, or even a reluctant heart.
As Christians, though we live in the United States, we live in between two realms, a temporal worldly realm which we are obligated to and we owe what belongs to that realm. And, the other realm that we live in is spiritual, under the rule and reign of God Himself and Christ. Therefore, everything we do is to be God honoring and Christ exalting; at least it’s supposed to be. Before we say or do anything, we should ask ourselves if it honors God and exalts Christ, if the answer isn’t a resounding “YES” we shouldn’t say or do it. Christians are not to rebel against civil government. We give honor to God by doing what is right.
Praying for our government officials will accomplish far more than all the protests we can organize. And, it makes more sense, after all, their decisions have an impact on our lives.
