Thine Be Done

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42

“Thine be done” was Jesus’ reaction when He looked at the sufferings of the cross…and my need of Him securing my salvation. “Thine be done” was Job’s reaction when he suffered his enormous losses (Job 1). “Thine be done” was Paul’s reaction when he “suffered the loss of all things that I may gain Christ” (Phil 3:8). “Thine be done” was the reaction of Peter, Andrew, James and John when they left their nets to follow Christ, not knowing where it would lead (Matthew 4). “Thine be done” is our reaction when we pray, “Lord, what will You have me to do?” Perhaps “Thine be done” is the highest form of worship. It certainly incorporates the Ten Commandments, the Great Commission, and the Great Commandment. Indeed, “Thine be done” is the simplest formula for expressing Christianity to our world. Can anyone doubt our purpose when we pray and live “Thine be done”?
