There are many people who have nowhere to turn when difficulties come

Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God. Psalms 146:5

There are many people who have nowhere to turn when difficulties come. That is not so for the believer in Jesus Christ. We are BLESSED with support of the highest quality. “Blessed” or “fortunate” is certainly better than “cursed” or “ignored” which happens to be the fate of many. But this blessing is not based upon a random style of living. It is based upon one knowing the God of Jacob (we might have expected Abraham’s name instead). I never met Jacob but I have met his God! Jacob’s God (“El”) met him at Bethel when he was running for his life from brother Esau. Jacob was a scoundrel in those days, yet God became his help. Jacob was later swindled by a greater scoundrel, his uncle Laban. Yes, Jacob stumbled all over the place. Sound familiar? Who, though, became Jacob’s help and the help of all stumblers? God (the Hebrew name “El” references God’s power/ability to do His will). I must humbly confess He is the kind of God I need! How about you?
