The Final Call

Will the last call be a moment of joy or anguish for you?

The Final Call

FOR THE LORD HIMSELF WILL DESCEND FROM HEAVEN WITH A SHOUT, WITH THE VOICE OF THE ARCHANGEL AND WITH THE TRUMPET OF GOD, AND THE DEAD IN CHRIST WILL RISE FIRST. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 (NASB)

I was recently discussing today’s remarkable verse via email with brother John from church. This led me to ponder this verse, and the event it speaks of – the last call of Christians by Christ.

I remember there being a short tv programme called “Late Call”, it was broadcast for only a few minutes each late evening on BBC 1, hence it’s name. Usually some suitably attired Church of Scotland minister presented a short and often not well presented soft devotional, which led to it being the subject of many comedian’s material over the years.

Another memory of a late call was the famous call of “last orders please!” in Scottish pubs (bars) before closing time. Suddenly the barmaids would be swamped with orders from miners seeking their last beer before going home. The smart patrons knew when last orders were to be called and beat the rush to the bar. I know this talk of pubs and drinking may shock some of you, but it makes a valuable point. Generally drinkers knew before closing and had the opportunity to put an order in; but there will be no such opportunity when Christ returns to take His own home to Heaven. No one knows the day or hour when this final call will come.

But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. Mark 13:32

Dear Reader, there are many rich and beautiful scriptures you could meditate upon which would benefit you. But today take some time to meditate upon the verses in this post; are you ready for Jesus Christ’s glorious return, at any time? Will the last call be a moment of joy or anguish for you?
