Something From Ronnie
Our former pastor and his wife have an adult son with special needs. One of Ronnie’s favorite things, especially around his birthday or at Christmas time, is to check the mailbox at the end of the driveway.
Knowing this, I decided to set up a Christmas card “event” for him. So, after getting his dad’s approval, I passed out Ronnie’s home address to several people at church, asking them to send him one.
Nancy and I ended up mailing him four! I picked out colorful designs with snow, evergreen trees, or Mickey Mouse wishing Ronnie a very Merry Christmas. Frankly, these cards had all the theological significance of Frosty the Snowman⛄️, but I thought our friend would enjoy them.
A Christmas card arrived yesterday in the mail from Ronnie’s parents. Opening it, I was delighted to find a message from him inside. This exceptional young man took the time to include a handwritten passage of scripture on the card.
Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

I texted our former pastor and told him his son’s actions spoke as loudly to me as any of his father’s excellent sermons. I then attempted to read the card to Nancy without tearing up. I was unsuccessful.
Kind reader, I set out to brighten Ronnie’s holiday season by sending a bunch of Christmas cards his way. Yet he reminded me of something, and someone, much more significant—the Word made flesh (John 1:14).
