Let It Go

When you’re given the opportunity to take offense, don’t do it

Let It Go

Let it go. Sisters and brothers, just let it go. When you’re cut off in traffic, let it go. When some makes a cutting remark, let it go. When you’re given the opportunity to take offense, don’t do it. Why do we find it hard to overlook offenses to ourselves? Can I tell you a secret? It doesn’t have to be hard. I used to be much quicker to anger. I used to be easily offended. But not so much anymore. What changed? Two things. 1) Frequent time in focused prayer listening to the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit. 2) A decision to let things go and be a person of peace. Of course the second is unsustainable without the first. We cannot be the people God has called us to be without spending significant time with Him in prayer. Jesus called us to go in our room, shut the door, and pray to our Father. The benefits of that time are many, one of which is a spirit of peace. So please beloved, don’t harm your witness of Christ to those who don’t yet follow Him by being easily offended. Stay close to the Lord, be slow to anger, and overlook offenses.
