It’s Not Your Job to Please Everyone

IT”S NOT YOUR JOB TO PLEASE EVERYONE

By Dr. Michale Sprague

PEOPLE-PLEASING

Do you constantly worry about what others may be thinking about you?

Do you refrain from doing things because others may not approve?

Do you tend to replay criticisms over and over in your head?

Here is a profound thought for those like me who deal with people-pleasing tendencies at times … JESUS DISAPPOINTED JUST ABOUT EVERYONE. Trying to please people is not the Jesus way. In fact, if you follow Jesus you are guaranteed to offend a few Pharisees and people along life’s journey. If our aim is to people-please we end up not pleasing God. If we aim at pleasing God, we will best serve people.

Galatians 1:10 says, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Let us align God in His proper place. It is like getting the top button of a shirt wrong … you get that one wrong and all the others are off; but, if you get that one right all the others line up. When God is not in His rightful place the rest of the buttons of our lives are not aligned.

Let us live for an audience of ONE.

You are so right because so many were offended by Jesus. It is much better to work to please God. People are fickle and trying for their approval is not to be our focus. Blessings!

The button analogy is quite a good analogy, isn’t it Jean?
