I very much did not want to write about this verse

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Luke 6:35 ESV

I very much did not want to write about this verse. The conviction from the Holy Spirit is great in it. Why? Because I have often turned my face away from those on the roads and in the intersections asking for money. And yet, sometimes I give and feel the encouraging witness from Him. I must remember that all I have is from the Lord, and it’s all for His purposes. We hold so tightly to our money and time, as if there is some limit to them. But God owns all things, and whatever resources I give in His name, He will repay infinitely, perhaps some in this life, but without question in the next.

If we keep in mind that when our current life ends it’s only the beginning of our eternal reward, then perhaps we will not hold back so much on giving to and loving others. Let me say one more thing, again preaching to myself. When someone cuts us off in traffic, or drives recklessly, or does something else we consider dangerous, or acts thoughtlessly, instead of railing against them, let us pray for them. Let us ask the Lord’s blessing on them. We don’t know their circumstances, but we know we can ask our merciful God to draw close to them, just as He does to us.
