Scripture: Romans 6:5 (KJV)
“For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.”
Devotional Thought
Have you ever looked back over your life and thanked God that you are not the same person you used to be? When we come to Jesus Christ, something begins to change within us. Our old ways, old habits, and old attitudes no longer have to control our lives. Through Jesus Christ, we have the opportunity to become new.
Romans 6:5 reminds us that when we are united with Christ in His death, we are also connected to the power of His resurrection. Jesus did not die on the cross for us to remain spiritually dead. He died and rose again so that we could experience new life in Him!
You do not have to remain who you used to be!
Perhaps your past is filled with mistakes, disappointments, heartaches, or decisions you wish you could change. But your past does not have to determine your future. When you surrender your life to Jesus, He can give you a new heart, renew your mind, and strengthen you to walk in a new direction.
Just as Jesus rose from the grave, God can raise you from the places that have kept you bound. He can raise your faith when you feel discouraged, restore your hope when life has disappointed you, and give you strength when you feel like giving up.
Remember, being raised with Christ does not mean you will never face another struggle. It means that your struggles no longer have to define you. You can face tomorrow with the assurance that the same Savior who conquered death is able to sustain you through every season of life.
You are not simply called to remember what Jesus did; you are called to live in the new life He has made possible for you!
Reflection
Am I allowing the new life Christ has given me to change the way I think, speak, love, and live?
Today, ask God to help you release anything that is holding you back from growing spiritually. Do not keep returning to the very things God is helping you overcome. Walk forward in faith, knowing that you belong to Christ.
