 Dedication To Him

Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When a man or woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to dedicate himself to the Lord, . . . Numbers 6:2 NASB

As we are approaching Easter I am reminded not just of the significance of this season relating to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but that it marks the birth of my life as a Christian in 1984. It was on Good Friday 1984 that I dedicated my life to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I came to find out later that part of my dedication ideally should have been baptism, which I did undergo years later. This was the dedication of my life to God.

Another dedication I gave later was to serve Him as an evangelist in my life; to do all I could to share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with my fellow men at every opportunity, either by word or deed. We are also quite close to marking the second year of the birth of this devotional blog; when I made a specific dedication to surrender my writing to His service rather than to writing frivolous worldly stories. This has been my dedication of service to God.

These can be said to be like Nazirite vows, which I have chosen based upon the Word of God and my need to serve my Lord and Saviour. If you search Scripture you will find that Nazirite vows can be both for a short season or for life, as was the case for Samson and John the Baptist. Such vows are marked by separation from the world and devotion to God, and could also be marked by abstinence from certain foods or alcohol. My abstinence is from writing worldly stories.

Dear reader, I share this as He guides my pen today. Maybe this is a challenge to you, to dedicate an aspect or even all of your life to Almighty God? Is there some service that you could do for Him today? I would encourage you to seek His guidance in reading His Word and through prayer; that your path ahead may be made clear to you.
