Blessed

The Psalms use the word blessed many times. Blessed refers to the happiness that God-given security and prosperity produce. Spiritually directed, we are better off than when we live to satisfy our passions. As Christ-followers, we allow Scripture to inform our lives, reflecting on God’s Word as we go about our daily routines. If we are to be happy, Scripture teaches, then we need to center our mind, heart, and soul on the instruction that the Word provides. Regularly applied, relying on God’s wisdom and guidance helps us live abundant, prosperous lives. This does not mean we will be the richest person on our block financially or the wealthiest person materially living in our neighborhood.

Being fully satisfied in Him brings us far greater lasting treasures then the material goods of this world can ever provide. This does not mean it is bad to have things. But the point of life is not collecting the most stuff (No, the one who dies with the most toys doesn’t win). Our happiness—in worldly terms—is not fundamentally what life is all about. Having all the material wealth and monetary riches does not equate to living your best life. Happiness—and living our best life—lies in our connectivity to God. True happiness is seen in how blessed Adam and Eve were back in the days when God walked in the Garden with them. They were truly living their best life. They had everything. They had no worries. They knew no sorrow. They knew what it was like to walk with God and be fully satisfied in Him. And He was fully satisfied in them.

Do you feel like this is the best year of your life? I pray that it is.

God is good all the time and all the time God is good.
