August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina landfall

This was the day Jesus ambushed me in a way I never would have suspected. It is said, “When God wants to make a man, He sometimes crushes a man” by taking away life’s security blankets, crutches and even nice comfortable days. For sure, I had a lot to learn about God Dependency, God Trust, God Confidence, God’s Sovereignty, moment by moment walking in dependency on the Spirit and abiding and resting in Jesus.

I’ve got a long way to go but I’m not the same person I used to be. I am not what I have. I am not what I do. I am not what others say I am. I don’t have to worry. I don’t have to hurry. In God, I am a most cherished son of the most high God. I discovered you never quite know Jesus is all you need, until Jesus is all you’ve got and then you find out experientially …Jesus is all you need.

He makes up my life better than I ever could.

Oh Hurricane Katrina…I wouldn’t wish the disaster, hurts, loss, death, betrayals, bullies, and disappointments on anyone but I wouldn’t trade His dramatic ambush of my life for anything either. It really is true…if you save your life you lose it but if you loose your life for Jesus’ sake you find life.

P.S.S. I wrote a book about my Katrina story entitled “Disaster: Betting the Farm on God in Life’s Storms. (Available at Amazon Books). It is designed to challenge and comfort anyone going through loss and troubles.
