A Song for Christmas: Come and See What God Has Done

“Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind!”
    (Ps 66:5)

Christmas invites us into wonder. Not the fleeting sparkle of lights or the rush of activity, but a deeper awe—the kind that makes us pause, breathe, and worship. Psalm 66 is a call to that very posture: Come and see.

The psalmist urges God’s people to:

    • look closely at His mighty works,
    • remember His saving power, and

    • respond with joyful praise!

At Christmas, we are invited to do the same. The greatest work of God did not arrive with thunder or spectacle, but wrapped in swaddling cloths, laid in a manger, and announced to shepherds on a quiet night. “Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright.”

    However…

…the heavens roared with angelic praise and flying, fluttering wings; the heavenly hosts watched as the Christ child entered humanity. And the angels sang, “Joy to the world, the Lord is come. Let earth receive her King!”

Jesus entered a broken world not to avoid suffering, but to walk through it with us. His message was clear from the start, for he was born in a barn and lived a poor man’s life. But man, was he rich—filthy rich—in mercy, compassion, and love. By stepping from glory into the sandals of humanity, he invited us to step from humanity into walking heavenly streets in eternal glory. “O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him, Christ, the Lord!”

This season, Psalm 66 reminds us that praise is not rooted in perfect circumstances, but in a faithful God who acts on behalf of his people. The birth of Christ is the ultimate “come and see” moment in history—God stepping into our story so we could know him, trust him, and rejoice in his salvation. “What child is this who lay to rest on Mary’s lap, is sleeping.”

As we celebrate Christmas, may our hearts join the song of Psalm 66.
Let us remember what God has done, declare His goodness, and

offer Him praise—not only with our words, but with lives lived in grateful worship. “Christ is born in Bethlehem. Hark! The herald angels sing. Glory to the newborn King.”

Come and see. The Savior has come! ✝️ And he will come again. Hallelujah!
