WHEN THEY SAW THE COURAGE OF
PETER AND JOHN AND REALIZED THAT
THEY WERE UNSCHOOLED, ORDINARY
MEN, THEY WERE ASTONISHED AND
THEY TOOK NOTE THAT THESE MEN
HAD BEEN WITH JESUS.
(Acts 4:13)
I always encourage people to read and study the Bible on their own with prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is the way to spend time with Jesus in our times.
Those who have been schooled have been taught by men. Men who have been taught by other men, normally along denominational lines directly opposing the unity that Jesus prayed to his Father about. Every denomination also elevates certain men from centuries past and proliferates their false and misleading doctrines.
Everybody thinks that what they believe is right, having learned it from their denominational “experts” who have the “educational” training and credentials to prove it.
BUT JESUS SAYS:
THE SPIRIT IS OUR TEACHER using everything God has revealed to us from the prophets, the words of Jesus, and the teachings of the apostles and disciples. The stories presented in the bible also have purpose.
The Spirit will remind you of everything Jesus said and taught.
The Spirit will guide you into all Truth.
The Spirit will teach you about things to come (prophecies yet unfulfilled).
It is foolish to proceed without the Holy Spirit, ignoring guidance directly from the mouth of Jesus.
All this brings me to the hardest part of this discussion which is likely offend some:
Go ahead and maintain the status quo by attending church every Sunday to pacify your conscience that you’re on the way to heaven, that you’re already saved and can’t lose it, because you’re in God’s house, the right denomination, using the right bible translation, and you’ve learned the right doctrines because that’s what they teach, and you’re surely not neglecting the assembly of believers as some are in the habit of doing.
And continue to believe that the gospel is all about God’s GRACE; that nothing more is required of you but to believe in Jesus’ finished work on the cross.
He did it all.
Nothing in addition is required of you because it’s “JESUS + NOTHING” and you have nothing of value to add.
You can’t stop sinning because “everyone’s a sinner,” your pastor says, although Jesus commands us to go and sin no more.
Your pastor talks about the apostle Paul every week and says that it’s “by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone” as though he’s about to give you chapter and verse where this is found. We certainly don’t want to do any “works” good or bad; “We can’t be boasting,” he says.
You bring nothing to the table regarding your own salvation because God does it all. “It’s all God and none of you,” he says.
And God only chooses some, and others he overlooks. “Only those he calls can come to him,” they say.
“Don’t let anyone deceive you,” Jesus said.
