There Is a Quest to Find the Answer to Why Am I Here
But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.
Philippians 3:7-8 NIV
Aug 20, 2024 – A twenty-one-year-old musician wrote, “For every human there is a quest to find the answer to why am I here, who am I, where did I come from, and where am I going. For me that became the most important thing in my life, everything else is secondary.”
Much later in life the same musician wrote, “When you’ve had all the experiences—met all the famous people, made some money, toured the world and got all the acclaim—you still think, ‘Is this it?’ Some people might be satisfied with that, but I wasn’t and I’m still not.” The musician was the late George Harrison of the Beatles.
The Apostle Paul would not have traded places with George Harrison. Nor would I. There may be days in our lives when we get the itch to run a rabbit trail and see where it will lead, but we eventually learn no rabbit trail can ever replace the Lord Jesus Christ. Not because of what He does but simply because of who He is.
It is true that “we love Him because He first loved us.” However, the maturing Christian eventually reaches a point where He no longer needs a reason to love Him. He simply loves Him…yearns for Him…hungers and thirsts for him…and gives Him a life of full devotion. The question is no longer, “How much must I give?” but, “Is there anything left to give?”
The world does not understand that appetite nor that reasoning. Many superficial Christians do not understand either. That’s ok. Perhaps someday they will. You and I can pray for that discovery to someday become theirs! Then they will know why everything else really is “garbage.”
May the joy of knowing and loving Him carry you through the rest of this day!

Hebrews 12:1-2A
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
He provides practical how-to-do-ministry resources for the disciples of Jesus Christ at http://www.godsgreenhouse.net. Tom’s latest book is “God Speaks–Today!”
