Thought For Today: “Making Heavenly Room Reservations”
Heaven is the home that every human heart longs for, and so the question becomes, “How can I make my reservations?”
This was the disciple Thomas’s inquiry. Jesus had just said that He is preparing a special place for every person who believes in Him.
“You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:1b-2)
Jesus is saying that He has designed a special place for each one of us, a special place with each one of us in mind.
So desirous was this offer that Thomas didn’t want to miss out so he said, “How can I make these reservations.” (John 14:5)
And so, Jesus made it clear, that such heavenly reservations can only be made through Him.
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

As I read this, the fact that Jesus has designed a special place for each one of us, a special place with each one of us in mind, also displays the intimate relationship He desires for us each individually. What Jesus said clearly shows us that religion is not what guarantees us eternity in heaven, but rather our personal relationship with Him as we receive Him as our Lord and Savior. There is nothing we can do to purchase that place in heaven. Jesus has paid the price in full upon that cross. All we need do is believe and receive Him and accept that which He has so graciously given us. “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) For those of us who have received Jesus as our Lord and Savior, heaven is the assurance that we all have.
Thank you, Debbie, for this wonderful response. Well written and thought out.
