The genealogies of Jesus recorded by Matthew and Luke prove that He was not a self-appointed Messiah; a misguided reformer caught up in popular acclaim who began to have delusions of grandeur. Nor was He merely a good teacher of morality and ethics, or a revolutionary out to overthrow Rome’s rule. His genealogies, tracing His ancestry back through David and Abraham to Adam and ultimately to God Himself, show that Jesus was Israel’s rightful king.

Within the story of the Hebrew people, Sampson becomes an antithetical example. He was special from the beginning. He is God’s man. He is divinely gifted. He has a calling and a purpose. Yet, all he does is act foolishly, get himself into trouble, and live selfishly. Sound like anyone you know?
Thick black smoke made it impossible to see. He was wandering, searching for a way out when his low air-warning bell began its constant ring. He was disoriented. He was running out of time. He had no idea which way to go. The panic began to well up inside. Then, behind him, he just barely heard the sound of someone else’s low air alarm in the distance.
Should I follow that sound, he thought, or should I stay here by this window? He decided to take a chance, and follow the sound of the bell. “Through the Lord’s guidance, no brilliance of my own, I came walking out . . . ” to safety. When the bell rings, when the Lord calls, what will you do?
What is the impact of your Father’s Day legacy? Will your child, or grandchild, be willing to pick up the mantle of God that you leave? Will they continue to walk in the Light of the Christ who died for them? It may be time to evaluate your legacy, for we are but, “70 years, or 80 by strength..and they are soon gone, and we fly away.”

It’s a song about those way-points on life’s journey when you find yourself utterly broken; that moment when you hit rock bottom and you know that something has to change. And, it’s about the life-changing grace that is found in those moments. His favorite lines from the song says, “Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break.”

After celebrating Memorial Day a few days ago, Cameron Buettel reminds us to never forget the importance of those who served; that we remember and celebrate the bravery of those who died to preserve and protect the freedoms we enjoy. The place was unimportant, the people around me were unimportant, and the time was unimportant. What was important was that I moved from unbelief to belief! I believed Jesus was truly enough!
