What is a moral compass?

The difference for the saved person is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and our ultimate standard, Jesus, shown to us in our final authority, the Bible. When we start thinking about moral absolutes, it is the Holy Spirit who leads us to understand and walk by these values. (See John 16:13.) For the believer, the inner compass becomes more than our own hearts, which we know to be wicked (Jeremiah 17:9); it becomes the eternal God living within us. (See 2 Corinthians 6:16.) Our ultimate standard for living out moral truths in perfect righteousness is our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. (See 1 John 2:6.) We view this perfect standard throughout the pages of God’s Word. Jesus is our light in a dark world, and the Word of God is the lamp by which we walk. (See Psalm 119:105.) This verse shows us how the Bible is “a lamp to my feet” for my immediate steps right where I am and “a light to my path,” showing me the right direction in which to walk. Left to our own personal feelings, cultural biases, and shifting worldly standards, we will fall and fail and exchange lies for truth and truth for lies. Yet, if we accept Jesus as Savior, we then have the eternal God and the eternal Savior and the eternal Word to guide us in righteousness and into the unchanging truth He has given to us.

As founder of Love Worth Finding, he was a powerful preacher, trusted Bible teacher, and respected Christian leader. Known for his passion for the Gospel and unwavering commitment to God’s Word, he shared the message of Jesus Christ with conviction, compassion, and integrity. A devoted husband to his childhood sweetheart Joyce, he was also a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Of all his accomplishments, Dr. Rogers often said his greatest joy was found in his relationship with Jesus, his family, and the church he served.
