“The Worst Injustice of All Time”

It would be the worst injustice of all time if sin got away with what it has done. Justice demands that sin gets what it deserves if sin is to receive its due payment.

The Apostle Paul tells us what that payment is. “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a)

Just as a worker receives wages for what they’ve done, so sin will receive its wages. It would be unjust not to pay a worker, and it would be unjust not to pay sin for what it’s done.

It has separated humanity from God, not only in this life, but for all eternity.

“But there is a problem — your sins have cut you off from God. Because of your sin, He has turned away and will not listen anymore.” (Isaiah 59:2)

It’s rebellion against God, thus causing humanity to reject and disobey God’s holy and righteous standards for life.

“For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Romans 3:23)

It caused the Father to send Jesus to die upon the cross so that we can be set free from its clutches.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)

Therefore, if sin does not receive its just wages, punishment for what it has done, then it would be the worst injustice of all time.

But the Lord provides a way by which sin can be dealt a fatal blow in our lives, and that is through faith in Jesus Christ.

“But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b)

It is important to note that eternal life is not a wage to be earned, but a gift given by God. And since it is a gift, our salvation cannot be earned. Instead, God has graciously given it through faith.

Thus Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” If God was willing to send His Son, Jesus, to pay the full price for our sins upon that cross, and Jesus willingly took our place, how can we do anything but give of ourselves fully to Him in every area of our lives? Romans 5:7-8, “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
