“Our Father…”
From the Lord’s Prayer:
A friend posted recently about “filling the gap.” He talked about how he could relate to his toddler children spiritually.
His boys are ages four and two. He wondered how he could relay spiritual truth of the Godhead to them. Thus, the prayer to God, “Fill the gap.”
All of us on this earth are on different spiritual levels. Some of us are more mature spiritually than others. Many, many people don’t know the Lord. How do we fill the gap?
It’s through prayer and worshiping the Father.
The disciples asked Jesus, “Lord, teach us to pray.”
Jesus said, “Pray after this manner…”
The disciples-a diverse group of people-Fishermen, Tax Collectors, Political Zealots, and more.
Jesus didn’t address them only. Luke notes that the multitudes came to him before he spoke to his disciples and he healed them all. These folks represented every walk of life- Jews, Gentiles, and more. People came from all around to hear Jesus’ words.
Jesus leveled the playing field by saying, “Our Father…”
What will this do in our relationship with our spouse, our children, our extended family members, our neighbors and our work associates?
This perspective will change everything, the way we treat God and our neighbor.
Fellowship doesn’t start relationally person-to-person. True fellowship starts with the Father. He’s our connection to all that is in the Universe.
1 John 1:3: “That which we have seen and heard we declare unto you, that you may also have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and his Son Jesus Christ.”
John referred to himself as the disciple Jesus loved. John never referred to himself by name in his gospel account. He said, “Truly our fellowship is with the Father and his Son Jesus.” He said it also that we might have fellowship with him who is John.
John said more. 1 John 1:1,3: “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the word of life, for truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”
Verse 7: “But if we walk in the light (the fellowship we have in the Father and the Son), as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Sin, in Greek, is a marvelous word when we really look at it. it doesn’t mean a particular sin; sin is described as a mindset in this verse’s context. Definition: “Missing the mark so as to not share in the prize.”
The dynamic that makes fellowship with one another work starts with, “Our Father.” Those two words bridge the gap between gender, race, nationality, separation between believing Jews and Christians, denominational differences, and especially in the home.
If you want to start relating to your spouse, children, neighbors, work associates, and anyone better, “fill in the gap” by praying, “Our Father.”
