There is one God, there is one Lord. People worship all manner of things. Perhaps you’re not a Christian, so you say to yourself, “I don’t believe in God or Jesus, and I don’t worship anything.” But it’s not true. We all worship something, or multiple things. How do you know what you worship? What is it that occupies your thoughts more than anything else.
Is it the struggle to make enough money? Or is it trying to become wealthy? Then you worship money. Is it looking forward to your next beer, or wine, or other alcoholic drink, or some form or drug, legal or illegal? Then you worship that substance. Is it looking at the bodies of other people who aren’t your spouse with desire? Then you worship lust. I could go on and on.
We all have areas of temptation that, left unchecked, become objects of worship. Money isn’t inherently evil, the Bible doesn’t say it’s wrong to have wine, God Himself created women and men and told them to be fruitful and multiply, so sex is part of God’s plan too. Each of these things, and many others, can either be used in appropriate ways, ways that put them in proper subjugation to the One true God, or we worship them and turn them into false gods in our hearts.
So I ask you. What are you worshiping? If it’s anything other than God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, you are setting yourself up for a life of being regularly lost, confused, and disappointed. In addition you will face eternal suffering at the end of this life. But if you will follow Him, there is indescribable peace, a sense of purpose and joy, and eternal life in Paradise.
Hey Christians! This is for you too! Take a long look in your own heart. Have you let something else take the place of God? If so, ask for forgiveness from the Lord, repent, and take the necessary steps to follow Him and put Him back on the throne of your life.
