Scripture
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27
This ancient prayer brings us into the heart of Christ’s pastoral care. We are not an anonymous crowd to Him—we are His flock, known by name, gathered by grace, and held together by His peace.
The prayer begins with a sweeping truth: God is Sovereign and Almighty, yet His sovereignty is not distant or cold. It is expressed in blessing, in help, in love. The Almighty bends low to care for the sheep of His fold.
We often imagine peace as the absence of conflict, but Scripture reveals something deeper. The peace Christ gives is the bond that unites His people—peace that reconciles, peace that heals, peace that makes us one body and one spirit. It is not something we manufacture; it is something we receive.
The prayer asks that we may be united “in the bond of peace and love, one body and one spirit, in one hope of our calling.” This is the Church at her truest: not divided by preference, not scattered by fear, not fractured by pride, but gathered around the Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep.
Christ’s flock is held together not by our strength but by His Divine and boundless love. His love is the pasture where we rest, the voice we follow, the safety we trust.
To pray this prayer is to remember: We belong to Him. We belong to one another. And His peace is enough to keep us.
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, great Shepherd of the sheep, gather Your people into the shelter of Your peace. Bind us together in love, heal what divides us, and make us one body and one spirit in the hope of Your calling. Let Your boundless love be our unity, our strength, and our song today, tomorrow and forevermore. Amen.
